In 2017, Black Friday will officially begin on November 24th. This used to be unofficially or officially the start of holiday shopping season.
What is 'Black Friday'?
The contemporary meaning of Black Friday refers to the day after the U.S. Thanksgiving, which has also traditionally been a holiday itself for many employees. It’s a day full of special deals and heavy discounts. People stand in line hours before the stores are opened, to grab the bargains of the year.
Salespeople use the term "Black Friday” to describe the long lines and general chaos they had to deal with on that day. Now it’s become a fixture in seasonal trading calendars in the US, UK and worldwide, and for customers it's the perfect time to stock up on Christmas presents.
